The Maggiore family have always had a passion for motoring. Vittorio Maggiore distinguishes himself during the Twenties at the most famous road races in Sicily. In 1924, he wins the Targa Florio, on his faithful twin-cylinder Harley Davidson. Born in Ali, ancient thermal city in Messina, Vittorio perceives that the motorcar can become an opportunity for business investment, in addition to an enthusiastic hobby, and opens a garage in the centre of Messina, where he starts a car rental agency for sports vehicles.
1947. Messina. Brothers Giuseppe and Francesco Maggiore, with father Vittorio set up the first self-drive car rental agency.Their first car is second hand. The Fratelli Maggiore firm is a small company, the difficulties are huge, the money limited, but the wish to succeed relentless. The results come quickly: The company implements new strategies, believes in its core values and expands, above all, thanks to its people.
The inspired intuitions of the Maggiore brothers bring great results: ever more attractive offers and business proposals draw the Italian public to the car.
The first significant international operators appear on the Italian market, forcing Maggiore to measure itself against new agencies and services.Despite the threat of new competitors, expansion continues at a steady pace.
Remaining faithful to its founding values and with a constant eye firmly on innovation, Maggiore is on par with the three multinational companies, Hertz and Avis. Its success continues.- 1977 Autolease, the long term rental of Company Fleets, comes to life while 87 agencies are opened with 5,300 vehicles circulating throughout Italy, including vans as the first commercial vehicles.
The widespread distribution of the service continues to increase- 1987 100 agencies with a fleet of 8,600 vehicles. Maggiore includes the Eni and Montedison groups among its customers. Autolease, the long term rental service, is strengthened and becomes an independent Division of the Maggiore Group. At the same time, van rental continues to grow to reach a par with car rental.
Maggiore tackles the challenge of the new millennium in its partnership with National and Alamo, allowing it to internationally manage all customer segments, with a presence in 75 countries worldwide and 3,000 rental agencies. To tackle the new competitive challenges more effectively, Maggiore is structured like a holding company. In 2002 Maggiore group is set up with the two operational companies of the Group: Maggiore Rent and Maggiore Fleet. Maggiore Rent manages the short term car and van rental under the name of Amico Blu, and also commercialises chauffeur driven services and tour buses, under the name of Maggiore Chauffeur Service, through a qualified network of specialised Operators. Maggiore Fleet instead specialises in offering long term rental and total management of the company car fleet. 2006 Maggiore signs an agreement to sell Maggiore Fleet Spa to the BBVA Group, Spanish Bank Group. 2007 Maggiore celebrates its 60th Anniversary, occasion of big celebrations in a unique set, such as the Vittoriano in Rome. Today with over 170 rental agencies in more than 100 Italian cities, in the main airports and train stations, Maggiore is the third biggest competitor in Italy.
