Landscape, architecture and culture
Why not make the beautiful lakes of Northern Italy such as Lake Garda and Lake Como the destination for your next holidays? Besides the lakes that are loved and appreciated by great writers and Hollywood VIPs, just a short car ride away there are many secret and surprising places to discover.
To begin, we suggest a visit to Tenno, a village dating to the Bronze Age that is a delight to the eye. Starting from its landscape of rural homes, arcades, courtyards to its imposing castle on a rocky spur; Lake Tenno, with its beautiful turquoise waters that are in contrast with the green woods is also well worth a visit.
Continuing our journey towards Lake Como, a visit to the splendid Villa Melzi D'Eril in Bellagio municipality is an absolute must; the Villa was built in the early 19th century and has been declared a national monument. The Villa was built for Duke Francesco Melzi d'Eril; its magnificent English gardens with ancient trees, rare plants, architectural settings and beautiful sculptures are a place of true peace and tranquillity.
Next, we suggest that you take a drive around the most romantic lake in Italy: Lake Orta. With picturesque villages high above the lake and unforgettable panoramic balconies, the lake is about 13 km long and 2 km wide, and is dotted with delightful places to stopovers.
Orta San Giulio, classed as one of the 100 most beautiful villages in Italy, is well worth a visit; visitors can also enjoy a Gourmet dinner at Villa Crespi, Antonio Cannavacciuolo’s award winning restaurant.
Omegna, is a village famous as the birthplace of Gianni Rodari and it is where the Nigoglia river surfaces; the Nigoglia is the only river of the great pre-alpine lakes that flows towards the Alps instead of flowing to the sea.
