PUGLIA

Pearls carved in rock, giant secular olive trees and a fairy tale lake

Let us discover together the most unique wonders of Puglia, starting from a restaurant built in the rock face and caves high over the Adriatic Sea. Hotel Restaurant Grotta Palazzese in Polignano a Mare, is an authentic pearl of Apulia in one of the most unique settings in the world and with a terrace carved in a cave.

Just 200 meters away is the historic centre of Polignano a Mare and Lama Monachile, a white pebble cove with sea caves and crystal clear waters that simply invite you to take an invigorating swim.

Continuing by car along the SS16 for about 40 km take a turn into the inside streets, to enjoy the spectacle of interminable olive groves as far as the eye can see, some of which are estimated to be 3,000 years old. This area is known as the “Piana degli Ulivi” (the Olive Plain), and borders on the municipalities of Ostuni, Fasano, Monopoli and Carovigno. This is also the home of the olive tree known as the “Emperor” which symbolizes an inspiring maestro of life, and winner in 2018 of the “Giants of Puglia Award”.

Continuing another 126 km or so on SS613 you reach another treasure of Puglia: the Bauxite Quarry. The quarry is no longer mined but is now a beautiful lake, in a setting in which reds, pinks, oranges and countless other shades of colour combine to marvellous effect.
