Hire Car Airport of Olbia

Going to Olbia? Plan your route from the Costa Smeralda airport onboard a rental car Maggiore and discover the city and its surroundings in complete freedom.

Olbia was christened “the lucky city” by the Greeks, and leads to the sparkling Emerald Coast. Set in a natural bay outlined by the wonderful islands of Tavolara and Molara, Olbia has a picturesque historic centre with Punic walls, 19th-century buildings and beautiful churches such as San Paolo in the Gallura style, or the granite church of San Simplicio.

After visiting Olbia, you can relax on the beaches of Bados, Baia Corallina, Gavrile, La Peschiera, La Playa or Rena Bianca and enjoy the sea glittering in every shade of blue. If you smell something sweet in the air, it’ll be the wild aromatic herbs found in the local vegetation!

Of course, you can’t visit Olbia without enjoying the local food: why not sample the spaghetti alla bottarga (known as Sardinian caviar), or the suppa cuata, a characteristic souffle from Gallura. Don’t miss the traditional confectionery and desserts either: papassini or casciatini to be enjoyed with the honey-and cheese-filled seadas.

Travelling down the coastal road in your hired car it’s an easy drive to Cala di Volpe, about 25 km north of Olbia. This is one of the most beautiful beaches on the coast, and nearby you’ll find a geomarine park named Arcipelago della Maddalena, 20,000 hectares of land and sea with more than 60 islands and islets.

Did you know that the town of Luras, about 40 km from Olbia Airport, can lay claim to a prestigious Italian record? Thanks to your Maggiore rental car, you can admire a magnificent wild olive tree, which according to experts at the University of Sassari might be as much as 4,000 years old. The Luras olive tree was declared a Natural Monument in 1991 and is included on a list of 20 such trees, by Ministerial order.
